I love the mountains. I never cease to be amazed by their majestic wonder. I find myself captivated by them yet again, as we are in Colorado for spring break. Driving in to the family cabin yesterday, we meandered through the foothills to the beginnings of the mountain ranges surrounding this favorite get away spot of ours. I watched the sun flicker over the raising peaks and beam down, bringing the rich red clays, icy snow patches and spots of trees and shrubs to vibrant life. Each place the sun rested upon shined forth it’s beauty like a peacock strutting its feathers. It all took my breath away.
This morning as I watched the sun rise over Mount Princeton, one of the gorgeous peaks we have a view of from the cabin, I just stared — amazed, yet again. The colors shown pink, crisp white, with bursts of ever greens careening to be a part of the gorgeous symphony of life shining before my eyes.
As I sat with my journal open I couldn’t help but pen a prayer in that moment, “God, rise over my life in the same way I see the sun rising over those mountains this morning. Shine on me. Radiate your love over me. Bring out the beauty you placed in me as your radiance beams over my life. Bring out the God colors…”
And then I paused as I pondered the words ‘God colors.’ I thought back to a verse that talks about God colors. It’s found in Matthew 5 right after the beatitudes where Jesus starts talking about being the salt and light to the world. I looked it up and want to share it with you today with these thoughts in mind. Matthew 5:13a, 14-16 (Message) says,
Let me tell you why you are here….
You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine!
Like the mountains, our lives reflect the beauty of God’s love as he shines his light forth upon us. So too do we bring forth beauty as we allow that light to beam through our lives to touch others. We are the light of the world. We are the ones who radiantly bring forth the bursts of reds, pinks, and evergreens just waiting to be revealed in the people around us. As we love, serve, and live generously with our lives – their lives shine more beautifully as all God placed with in them bursts forth. What a privilege it is to be light bearers to this world so desperately in need of Him!
Let’s pray: Father God thank you for shining your love upon me. Thank you for making me alive in you and for calling forth everything you’ve placed in me to glorify you here on this earth. Shine your light even into the places of deep pain in my heart, the dark, seemingly lifeless, dry, arid places and bring forth the God colors there. And thank you for the joy and privilege of this call you’ve placed on my life to bring out the God colors in the world around me. Help me to clothe myself in love every day and shine in me, that I may shine you, for all the world to see. In Jesus name, amen
